Making a Difference

Gina Caswell Kelly

The love of God is such an amazing thing! It is hard to imagine a God who would love us so much that He would give His own Son to die in our place for sins He never committed. I send a scripture text every morning to quite a few people. Some of them, I know very well. There are others whom I have never met, but their names were given to me by a a friend that loved them. I have so many on my list that share their problems and their concerns with me. I appreciate that they feel they can share with me. Even those who have never even met me. I always try to draw them into the fact that God loves them and wants the best for them, even when life doesn’t seem to be going very well.

The love of God is steady. It is certainly undeserved, and it is unending. It is very hard to understand a love like that. A love that we so don’t deserve. On your very best day, you and I do not deserve the great love of God, yet, as the Bible says, He freely bestows it upon us. And it will never end. It doesn’t matter what heinous act we commit, God’s love is sure and will never leave us.

God’s love meets us where we are and not where we think we need to be to deserve His love. We can never deserve it. If you are one of these that I hear from so often that just keeps struggling and struggling to make yourself worthy, stop it! You will never be worthy, and that just flat does not matter to God. He never runs out of patience and He never runs out of mercy. He is not up there with a measuring device seeing how far up it you can climb with your good deeds. He loves you anyway. Now, do not misunderstand me. God’s mercy and love and forgiveness is not a license to just live however we want to and suffer no consequence. Far from it. Earthly sins do come with consequence, even after God forgives you. So never think having to pay an earthly price means God did not love you or forgive you.

The fact is that God’s love should be the very thing that changes us from wanting to live in sin. His love does not just bring us comfort. It changes us from the inside out. His love calls us to live a life of grace. His love calls us to love others and to show compassion for others.

As I said in the beginning, the love of God is such an amazing thing. Knowing that He gave His Son freely for me just fills my heart. Have you accepted this gift of love and forgiveness from our Savior? Oh if you haven’t, let today be the day.

God’s love makes all the difference!
