TxDOT to Perform Road Maintenance on US 62/385 in Brownfield
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced plans to conduct routine road maintenance next week along a portion of US Highway 62/385 within the city of Brownfield. The maintenance work is scheduled to take place on , and will cover the stretch of highway from West Reppto Street to State Highway 137.
According to TxDOT officials, the work will involve scrub seal operations, a common preventative maintenance technique used to help preserve the roadway and extend its lifespan. During the project, motorists can expect daytime lane closures as well as temporary closures of some side streets connected to the highway. Drivers traveling through the area should anticipate slow-moving traffic and possible delays while the work is underway.
Scrub sealing is a process that involves applying a layer of asphalt or asphalt emulsion to the road surface, followed by sand or a small aggregate material. This mixture helps fill cracks and minor surface imperfections in the pavement. By sealing these cracks, the treatment helps prevent water from penetrating the roadbed, which can lead to more serious damage over time. The process is considered a cost-effective maintenance method that helps protect roadways and delay the need for more extensive repairs or reconstruction.
TxDOT is reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert, and follow all traffic control signs when traveling through the work zone. These precautions help protect both drivers and roadway crews working in the area.
The maintenance work is weather permitting, and schedules may change if conditions are unfavorable.
