Making a Difference

By Gina Caswell Kelly

What is your ministry? Are you busy thinking, “I am not a minister! I have no ministry!”? You could not be more wrong. We all have a ministry, wherever we are. We are not all called to be pastors or teachers. We are not all called to go to the mission field in some foreign country. But if you think those are the only callings God places on our lives, you are wrong! God calls us all for His purposes, wherever we are.

I have done lots of things in my life. I have had lots of jobs. But, no matter where I was, God had a calling on my life. I will admit to you that I went through many years of being a horrible witness for God, and not allowing my life to be used by Him, other than for a very poor example of how to live a Christian life. Today, I am thankful for God’s grace and His forgiveness and for allowing me to continue today to be used by Him, in spite of what I may have done in the past.

I truly believe with all my heart that nothing happens in our lives by accident. I know full well that God knows the path each of us will walk. It is not always in ways He plans, but He knows where we will be and He chooses to meet us there and guide us back into His will. I don’t think that anyone crosses our path during the day by accident. I believe that God has a purpose. That purpose may seem very small, as in just a simple smile or “Hello.” Other times, His purpose may be much deeper. Someone may be truly hurting, and praying so hard that God will place someone in their path for guidance. And, it is up to us, as God’s kids, to not allow those moments to get by us.

We need to get up each morning, and with intention, pray that He will guide our steps and open our minds to what may pass in front of us. Never let opportunity go by. Never turn your head and walk away when you think you are not equipped for whatever that person may need. I tell you the truth. God never places you anywhere that He does not also equip you for His purposes.

Be open to God’s call on your life. Ask God today to show you your ministry. Ask Him to be a very present presence in your life as you walk the path in front of you. You have a ministry. You really do! Seek God and open your heart to what He has for you. It will make a difference!
