Unofficial results from the May 2, 2026, Municipal General Election in Terry County show several local races decided, along with the outcome of South Plains Underground Water Conservation District (SPUWCD) Proposition A.
According to the Terry County Joint Elections Office, 16 ballot-by-mail ballots remain outstanding. However, officials confirmed that none of these remaining ballots will impact the unofficial outcomes. Among the outstanding ballots, one is in Brownfield City Council District 1 and another in District 2.
In the Brownfield mayoral race, incumbent Eric Horton secured re-election with a narrow 219 to 200 victory over challenger Chuck Nave, a margin of 19 votes. Horton’s total included 125 early votes, 15 ballot-by-mail votes, and 79 Election Day votes. Nave received 110 early votes, 12 ballot-by-mail votes, and 78 votes on Election Day.
In Brownfield City Council races, Paul C. Vasquez in District 1 and Lee B. Gamez in District 3 ran unopposed. In District 2, Elvis Rodriguez defeated incumbent Vanessa Valdonado by a vote of 32 to 24.
In the City of Meadow, Natalie Howard won the mayoral race, defeating Brandon Corley 53 to 44. For Meadow City Council At-Large, both Chase Fleming and Maria Fraire ran unopposed.
In Meadow ISD’s race for two at-large trustee positions, incumbent Joshua Ruiz received 63 votes, incumbent Rusty Day received 59 votes, and Roy Martin received 53 votes. Both Ruiz and Day were re-elected.
For the South Plains Underground Water Conservation District, Timothy Swaringen and Tye Day ran unopposed in their respective races.
SPUWCD Proposition A, which proposed changes related to the district’s tax cap, failed across all reporting districts. District-level totals showed:
- District 1: 91 For, 126 Against
- District 2: 81 For, 95 Against
- District 3: 20 For, 38 Against
- District 4: 39 For, 90 Against
Overall, the proposition received 231 votes in favor and 349 votes against. This equates to approximately 39.8% support and 60.2% opposition.
A total of 608 ballots were cast in the election, including 293 early votes and 283 Election Day votes.
All results remain unofficial until canvassed. Each candidate will take the oath of office in each of their next regularly called meetings.
