I can’t believe we are already at the final week of the Texas high school football regular season! It seems like we were just getting started, and now we’re wrapping things up and getting ready for the playoffs.
Anyway, last week I went 95-22, giving me an 81% winning percentage! Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.
This week, I’ve got just one Game of the Week, but it’s a big one! A district championship is on the line, two explosive offenses are ready to square off, and something has to give.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Sweetwater (4-0 District, 7-2 Overall) at #9 Clyde (4-0 District, 9-0 Overall)
The Battle of I-20 heats up Friday night as the No. 9 Clyde Bulldogs welcome the Sweetwater Mustangs with the district championship on the line!
Quite frankly, I’m not sure many people saw this matchup coming before the season started. But here we are, with two undefeated district teams battling for the crown.
And if you like offense, this is the game for you!
Clyde has been absolutely rolling this season, averaging an impressive 54 points per game, while Sweetwater isn’t far behind, putting up 49 points per contest.
Defensively, both teams have been pretty solid as well. The Bulldogs are allowing just 18 points per game, while the Mustangs are giving up an average of 20.
Now, here’s what makes Sweetwater dangerous. Their only two losses came in the first two games of the season. They fell to the now No. 1-ranked Idalou Wildcats and then dropped a heartbreaker to a tough Lubbock Estacado squad by just two points.
Since then, the Mustangs have been on a mission, and they haven’t looked back.
But let’s talk about Clyde.
The Bulldogs have been nothing short of dominant this season. Sitting at 9-0, they have looked nearly unstoppable, lighting up scoreboards and taking care of business week after week.
Something tells me we’re in for a good old-fashioned West Texas football showdown Friday night!
HORTON’S PICK: CLYDE BULLDOGS
I’m going with Clyde to finish the regular season undefeated and claim the district championship. However, don’t be surprised if Sweetwater pulls off the upset. The Mustangs have been battle-tested, and they’ve got the firepower to make things interesting.
One thing is certain: somebody’s perfect district record is coming to an end!
And that’s a wrap for Week 11 of Horton’s High School Football Picks! The regular season may be coming to a close, but the real fun is just beginning.
It’s playoff time in Texas, and there’s nothing quite like November football!
