The Lady Cubs are preparing for an area-round playoff matchup against the defending Class 3A State Champions, the #21 Shallowater Fillies. The Fillies started the season ranked #1 but experienced a rough patch, losing four consecutive games early on. However, they have since recovered, climbing back into the top 25 rankings. Currently, Shallowater is one of the hottest teams in Class 3A Region I, boasting a 20-game winning streak and a perfect 14-0 record in district play, which includes a Bi-District Championship victory over Bushland with a score of 62-43.

Both Brownfield and Shallowater share two common opponents: Idalou and Levelland. In November, the Lady Cubs lost to both teams, falling to #11 Idalou 59-34 and #21 Levelland 88-21. Conversely, the Fillies faced the Loboettes earlier in November and lost 58-44. Shallowater played Idalou twice this season, winning both encounters with scores of 42-35 and 38-22.On average, the Fillies score 55 points per game while allowing 40. In contrast, the Lady Cubs average 42 points per game but allow 53.

Last season, the Lady Cubs were eliminated in the area round by Shallowater, with a score of 70-30. However, this season presents a different opportunity. To succeed, the Lady Cubs will need to play with complete focus, avoid turnovers, and aggressively attack the basket to score points and draw fouls.
