The Runnin’ Cubs are set to face the Bushland Falcons in the Area Round of the playoffs. The Falcons secured a Bi-District win against Littlefield on Tuesday evening, with a close score of 41-39. Currently, Bushland has an overall record of 13-11 and is 8-2 in District 1-3A. Their two losses came against Childress, where they fell 52-48, and Canadian, with a score of 58-49.
Both the Runnin’ Cubs and the Falcons share some similarities. They met earlier this season during the Tatum Tough Tournament at Canyon High School over Christmas break, where Brownfield won decisively with a score of 59-46. Additionally, both teams have competed against Canyon, Levelland, Lamesa, and Nazareth. The Runnin’ Cubs defeated Canyon 62-56, while Bushland lost to them 72-49. Both teams suffered losses to Levelland, with Brownfield losing 57-52 and Bushland narrowly losing 46-45. In their matchups with Nazareth, Brownfield won 72-43, and Bushland also triumphed, winning 48-45. Lamesa faced defeat against both teams, but Bushland played them only once, winning that game 51-34. In contrast, Brownfield swept their matchups against Lamesa in district play, winning both games by scores of 65-37 and 81-48.
As for their performance stats, Bushland is averaging 49 points per game while allowing 47, whereas Brownfield averages around 70 points per game and allows 53. Although the Runnin’ Cubs appear strong on paper, Bushland is currently on a six-game winning streak and has won all their second-round district games, including a notable victory over a tough Littlefield team. It seems that the Falcons are beginning to peak and could easily upset the #5 team in the state.
The Runnin’ Cubs need to replicate their performance against Kermit, bringing their best game and pushing hard against Bushland. This will be a challenging task, especially considering some of the larger players on the Falcons’ roster.
