Wellman-Union Wildcat football will look different next season as Head Football Coach John York is stepping down and will take on another role within WUCISD. Coach York had a record of 2-17 in his two seasons but played a crucial role in helping the Wildcats snap a 31-game losing streak by defeating Patton Springs 45-0 in week three of the 2024 season. The last victory before the Patton Springs game occurred on October 16, 2020, when the Wildcats won against Whiteface, 44-42. Additionally, during the 2023 season, a game against Spur at Wellman was called at halftime due to a lack of players from Spur.
According to WUCISD, they offer a 4-day work week, extremely competitive salary/stipends, small class sizes, an excellent West Texas Family Atmosphere, and a culture committed to growth. Salary and Benefits: $9,296 above state base, $400 towards insurance, $1,000 stipend per tested subject, plus other stipends.
