Brownfield Cubs (0-2, 0-9) vs Kermit Yellow Jackets (0-2, 2-7) at Kermit, Friday, Nov. 7th, 7:00 pm kickoff
It’s the final game of the regular and district season, and the Cubs are aiming for their first win since November 2, 2023. With only four teams in District 2-3A DI, all teams, including Brownfield, qualify for the playoffs. Last season, Brownfield lost to Kermit at home with a score of 33-18, but there is a renewed motivation to win this game tomorrow night.
Both teams, Brownfield and Kermit, have faced Denver City and Lamesa. Brownfield lost to Denver City with a score of 54-12 and to Lamesa with a score of 56-0. Kermit also struggled against these teams, losing to Denver City 65-19 and to Lamesa 49-0. These two teams are the only common opponents for Brownfield and Kermit. The Yellow Jackets have a somewhat balanced offense, having accumulated 848 passing yards and 989 rushing yards so far. Brownfield’s biggest challenge will be to stop Kermit’s running game. The Cubs’ defense must focus on forcing turnovers. Offensively, they will need to sustain their drives and avoid penalties, as playing a penalty-free game will significantly increase their chances of winning.

Wellman-Union Wildcats (1-2, 2-7) vs O’Donnell Eagles (1-2, 3-6) at Wellman, Thursday, Nov. 6th, 7:30 pm (Senior Night)
The Wildcats secured their first district win since October 15, 2020, by defeating the Meadow Broncos 54-28 last week. The Meadow Broncos have concluded their season, as their bye week falls in the last week. This year, the Wildcats have competed well throughout all four quarters in most of their games and have avoided the 45-point mercy rule, except in three instances.
Wellman-Union and O’Donnell share a common opponent outside of district action: Spur. The Wildcats defeated Spur in their first game of the season, 26-22, and O’Donnell handed Spur another mid-season loss, 58-14. A lot has changed throughout the season, and with the Wildcats’ recent win over cross-county rival Meadow, they are sure to feel confident heading into Thursday night’s game. In most of the Wildcats’ losses, turnovers have been a significant issue. Tonight, Coach Labadie will emphasize the importance of holding onto the ball. Additionally, penalties have not helped the Wildcats this season. With it being senior night and a district win under their belt, the Wildcats should aim to play hard for all four quarters and secure the victory.
