Meadow Lady Broncos Basketball are fired up!

The Meadow Lady Broncos had a successful season last year, making it to the second round of the postseason before losing to Spur with a score of 50-42. This year, Meadow hopes to advance even further. The last time the Lady Broncos made it to the third round of the playoffs was 10 years ago, when they lost to Paducah, 51-34. In the following round, Paducah was defeated by Nazareth. In Class 1A girls basketball, most postseason paths lead to Nazareth, particularly in Region I. Since 1955, over the past 70 years of girls basketball, 63%—or 44 of the Class 1A State Champions—have emerged from Region I, with 24 of those from Nazareth. Notably, they have participated in the state tournament 33 times. This highlights just how challenging Region I-1A is.

The Lady Broncos are currently enjoying a strong season with a record of 7-1 and a five-game winning streak, including a victory over the top-25-ranked Sands. As of Monday, November 24th, the Lady Broncos are ranked #21 in Class 1A. Meadow has retained a good number of players from last year’s team, particularly Junior Joey Harrington, who leads the Lady Broncos in scoring, and Junior Alejandra Gonzalez, who brings valuable skills to the court. According to Head Coach Kole Vedder, the Lady Broncos had a great offseason, plus sophomores Jillian Cavazos, Gabriela Vazquez, and Khloe Rodriguez have gotten much better and will help contribute.

Meadow currently has a record of 7-1, with their only loss occurring against Hart, 57-54. However, they have since redeemed themselves by defeating Hart 52-34 in the Wellman-Union Turkey Classic Tournament. Their victories include wins over Morton, #16 Sands, Southland, Post, and the West Texas Tornadoes.On Tuesday, November 25th, the Lady Broncos will travel to face the challenging #6-ranked Hermleigh. After this match, they will take a week-long break before traveling to Petersburg on December 2nd. To conclude the first week of December, the Lady Broncos will participate in the Sands Tournament.

The next week on December 9th, Meadow will travel north up to Lazbuddie then come home for the first time since November 18th to host the Meadow Swishmas Tourney. On Tuesday December 16th, Meadow will stay home to take on Dawson and finish up the week and 2025 away at O’Donnell on the 19th.

On January 2nd, the Lady Broncos are back in action with four consecutive home games. They will start with Guthrie on the 2nd, followed by a challenging match against the 2A Sudan squad on January 6th. During the second week of January, Meadow will begin district action at home against cross-county rivals Wellman-Union on Tuesday, January 9th. They will conclude the week with a game against Anton on the 13th. Following that, they will travel to Cotton Center on the 16th and return home on the 20th to take on #5 Whitharral. On January 23rd, they’ll finish up the first round of district when they travel up to Amherst.

On Tuesday, January 27th, the Lady Broncos will begin the second half of their district season with an away game against their cross-county rival, Wellman-Union. On January 30th, they will travel again, this time to Anton. The team will return home on February 3rd to face Cotton Center. Later, they will visit the state-ranked Whitharral on Friday, February 6th, and conclude their regular/district season with a final home game on February 10th..
