Brownfield Lady Cubs

Lady Cubs Face Crucial Week as Playoff Picture Comes Into Focus

The Brownfield Lady Cubs didn’t get the results they were hoping for last week, running into two of the district’s top teams. Brownfield dropped a 43–31 decision to the No. 14 Lamesa Lady Tornadoes before falling to the No. 2-ranked Coahoma Lady Bulldogs, 67–35. Those setbacks moved the Lady Cubs to 4–7 in district play, but their postseason hopes are still very much alive heading into the final week of the regular season.

Now, everything comes down to one last district matchup—and it comes with plenty of emotion and significance.

Brownfield will close out district play at home Tuesday night, February 10, as they host the Crane Lady Cranes on Senior Night. In the first round of district, the Lady Cubs took care of business in decisive fashion, earning a 46–19 win over Crane. Replicating that performance would be timely, as it would keep Brownfield firmly in the postseason conversation.

The stakes don’t stop there. If the Lady Cubs can take care of Crane and the Denver City Fillies fall to Coahoma, the stage would be set for a third meeting between Brownfield and Denver City. That potential tiebreaker game would determine which team punches its ticket to the playoffs—a winner-take-all scenario with everything on the line.

For the Lady Cubs, Tuesday night is about more than standings and scenarios. It’s about finishing strong, honoring the seniors who have poured years into the program, and proving they’re ready to fight for a postseason spot. With their backs against the wall and a home crowd behind them, Brownfield will look to rise to the moment and keep their season alive.

Brownfield Runnin’ Cubs

Runnin’ Cubs Clinch District Title, Set Sights on Perfect District Run

The Brownfield Runnin’ Cubs remain undefeated, but the past two games showed that even the top team in the district can be tested. Despite not playing their sharpest basketball for stretches, the Runnin’ Cubs found ways to respond, regroup, and ultimately do what champions do—win.

Last week’s matchup with the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes was a tale of two halves. Brownfield struggled to find rhythm early, and Lamesa made sure the game stayed tight. At halftime, the Runnin’ Cubs held a slim 22–21 lead, with momentum very much up for grabs.

Coming out of the locker room, however, Brownfield flipped the switch. The Cubs dominated the third quarter, pouring in 14 points while holding Lamesa scoreless. That defensive intensity set the tone for the rest of the night, as Brownfield pulled away for a convincing 58–41 victory—reminding everyone why they sit atop the district standings.

Friday night brought even bigger stakes, as the Runnin’ Cubs squared off with the Coahoma Bulldogs. With a district championship on the line, Brownfield rose to the occasion, earning a 68–54 win to officially clinch the district title. The result showed improvement from the first-round meeting, where the Cubs dominated Coahoma 85–54, and further cemented Brownfield’s place as the team to beat.

Now, the focus shifts from titles to history.

This week, the Runnin’ Cubs have the opportunity to finish district play undefeated as they wrap up action with back-to-back home games. Brownfield will host the Crane Golden Cranes and the Stanton Buffaloes, two teams they handled convincingly in the first round of district play. The Cubs cruised past Crane 76–34 and overwhelmed Stanton 87–38, showcasing their depth, speed, and defensive pressure.

With a district championship already secured, the motivation now becomes consistency, momentum, and pride. An undefeated district run would cap off a dominant regular season and send a clear message heading into the postseason: the Runnin’ Cubs are locked in, dangerous, and ready for what’s next.

Meadow Lady Broncos

Lady Broncos Close District Play with Confidence After Clinching Playoff Spot

The Meadow Lady Broncos turned in a solid week on the court, finishing 1–1 while officially securing their place in the postseason. While not perfect, it was another productive stretch for a team that has consistently taken care of business throughout district play.

The Lady Broncos opened the week in dominant fashion, overwhelming the Cotton Center Lady Elks with a decisive 59–12 victory. From the opening tip, Meadow controlled the tempo, played suffocating defense, and showcased their depth, building a commanding lead early and never looking back.

Later in the week, the Lady Broncos faced a tough challenge against the No. 8-ranked Whitharral Lady Panthers. Despite strong effort, Meadow fell 69–41 to one of the top teams in the state. While the loss snapped momentum, it also served as a valuable measuring stick against elite competition—experience that could prove beneficial heading into the playoffs.

Most importantly, Meadow has already punched its ticket to the postseason, removing any pressure from the final district matchup.

This week, the Lady Broncos wrap up district action with one final game as they host the Amherst Lady Bulldogs. In the first meeting earlier this season, Meadow left no doubt, dominating Amherst 60–11 with relentless defense and efficient scoring.

With postseason play just around the corner, expect the Lady Broncos to stay focused, finish strong, and use this final district game to fine-tune their execution. A confident performance would be the perfect way to close district play and carry momentum into the playoffs as Meadow looks to make a deep run.

Wellman-Union Lady Cats

Lady Cats Stay in the Playoff Hunt Heading Into Final District Game

The Wellman-Union Lady Cats put together a solid and resilient week, finishing 1–1 and keeping their postseason hopes alive as district play winds down.

The week began at home against a tough and physical Anton Lady Bulldogs squad. The Lady Cats battled throughout the contest but ultimately came up short, falling by eight points. Despite the loss, Wellman-Union showed flashes of strong defensive play and competitiveness against one of the district’s more challenging opponents.

Needing a win to stay firmly in the playoff picture, the Lady Cats responded exactly how they needed to. Traveling north to take on the Amherst Lady Bulldogs, Wellman-Union delivered a clutch performance, securing a much-needed victory. The win proved critical, allowing the Lady Cats to keep their postseason dreams intact and build confidence heading into the final week of district action.

Now, everything comes down to one last game.

This week, the Lady Cats close out district play as they face the Cotton Center Lady Elks. In their previous meeting, Wellman-Union controlled the game from start to finish, earning a convincing 50–17 victory.

With the playoffs on the line, expect the Lady Cats to stay locked in, play with urgency, and look to finish district on a strong note. A win would not only cap off district play the right way, but also send Wellman-Union into the postseason with momentum and confidence at just the right time.

Meadow Bronccos

Broncos Hold Firm in Second Place, Prepare for Key Home Stretch

The Meadow Broncos had a mixed but telling week on the hardwood, picking up an important district win before running into one of the top teams in the state. Meadow opened the week by taking care of business against the Cotton Center Elks, showing composure and control to secure a much-needed victory.

Later in the week, the Broncos faced a stiff challenge against the No. 9-ranked Whitharral Panthers. Despite strong effort, Meadow couldn’t keep pace with the high-powered Panthers and fell 74–37. While the loss was lopsided on the scoreboard, it came against elite competition and did little to hurt Meadow’s standing in district play.

Even with the setback, the Broncos remain in second place in the district with three games still to play—a strong position as the postseason approaches.

This week brings a welcome change of scenery, as Meadow will stay home for both district contests. The Broncos tip things off tonight against the Amherst Bulldogs. In their first district meeting, Meadow edged out Amherst in a tight 53–51 battle, making this rematch one to watch as both teams look to gain momentum down the stretch.

Following that matchup, the Broncos will host their cross-county rivals, the Wellman-Union Wildcats. This game carries extra significance, as it will be the final district meeting between the two rivals for at least the next two years. In the first round of district play, Meadow controlled the contest and earned a 58–42 win.

With playoff positioning on the line and rivalry pride at stake, the Broncos will look to defend their home court, solidify their spot near the top of the district, and finish the regular season with confidence.

Wellman-Union Wildcats

Wildcats Stay Alive in Playoff Race with Dramatic Win, Face Key Week Ahead

The Wellman-Union Wildcats showed plenty of grit and heart last week, keeping their playoff hopes alive with one of the most exciting wins of the season. In a thrilling matchup against the Anton Bulldogs, the Wildcats pulled out a dramatic 58–56 victory on a buzzer-beater, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and injecting new life into their postseason push.

Riding the momentum of that emotional win, Wellman-Union faced a tough challenge in their next outing against the Amherst Bulldogs. The Wildcats battled but ultimately came up short, suffering a loss that kept the district standings tight and left little room for error moving forward.

Now, the Wildcats enter a crucial week with everything still on the line.

Wellman-Union will begin the week at home as they host the Cotton Center Elks. In their previous meeting, the Wildcats controlled the pace and earned a solid 68–50 win. A repeat performance would be a major step toward solidifying their place in the playoff picture.

Following that matchup, the Wildcats hit the road for a highly anticipated cross-county showdown with the Meadow Broncos. In their first meeting earlier this season, Wellman-Union fell 58–42, but this rematch presents an opportunity for redemption. With familiarity, rivalry pride, and postseason implications all in play, expect an intense and hard-fought contest.

With momentum still within reach and the playoffs on the horizon, the Wildcats know the path forward is clear: protect home court, compete fiercely on the road, and finish district play strong.
