Making a Difference

“Let not your heart be troubled…” John 14:1

We hear these words from the Bible often. But what does it mean? How is that supposed to work in my real world? We have had many tragedies around our area lately. Loss of the lives of kiddos in our region. People without jobs. Gas prices going sky high. Gas prices will send food prices higher. We need rain in the worst possible way. How are we supposed to live with a non troubled heart in these days? Are we supposed to play some sort of “mind over matter” game in our lives, when all around us seems to be in so much turmoil?

Well, kind of. We are supposed to put our focus on the One who knew this day was coming long, long ago. We are supposed to fall into His arms and into His Word. We are supposed to lean on each other, as Christians. And, as Christians, we are to be there for others to lean on.

As Christians, we have been given the gift of peace. Oh, sure the outside world might be all in chaos. But with Christ, we have been given the peace that is beyond all understanding. We have been given the blessing of being able to find rest in a really troubled world. That doesn’t mean we are just ignoring everything and believing that it will all work out. Instead, it means that what God has allowed us to control, we do our best with. And the rest, we just open our hands daily and give it to Him. I understand that is much easier said than done. But, we have to be intentional about wanting to let Him have our worries and concerns. We have to recognize that He is the One who knows what is around the bend for us.

No matter what today holds. We know Who holds today. Oh what a blessing this is! When I was farming and financial worries just seemed to weigh heavy on me, I would think about the verse in the Bible that says, “The Lord is on my side. I will not fear. What can mere man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6) There is so much comfort in those words. What more do you need to know other than the fact that the Lord is on your side?

As the world presses in on you, open your hands and give it all to God. He sent His Holy Spirit into your life to walk with you and hold you close. Let Him do this for you. It will make a difference!
